But from my experience, cheap motors (<= 8 euros each) seem to have a lower efficiency. And I also noticed that cheap motors are never the same - some motors have more windings, some have less. That could be a problem if the control loop of your copter can't deal with this.
I think you know that 3-blade props generally have a lower efficiency than 2-blade props. So it would be better to use e.g. 6x3 2-blade props instead of 5x3 3-blade. But that increases the total size of the copter...William Thielickehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01217178163189555726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821522320379987891.post-30657128875043375802011-09-29T01:40:01.416+02:002011-09-29T01:40:01.416+02:00Hi! Second, i have been hanging around this site for quite some time and i finally want to build my own tricopter primarily for FPV flying(oh and for getting some hands on experience on automat. control). It should look very much like your DLXm, where you used Roxxy2216/25 motors, 5x3 blade GWS and the turningy plus 6A ESCs. If I may ask, would you still recommend using this combination of Motor/Prop/ESC, or should i use something else on this weight class? Note that i am still on a student budget:-) have a nice day - rookieRookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10303901986807043341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821522320379987891.post-86324073880882472842011-09-26T09:31:07.011+02:002011-09-26T09:31:07.011+02:00Hi Leon,

For a hobbyist, this is pretty hard to do (although I managed to fly autonomously indoors and outdoors already, but it is not working reliable enough for the IMAV). What is also important, is the fact that autonomous flight isn't any fun anymore once it is finished. And for hobbyists, everything is about fun, isn't it? Autonomous flight got 12 times more points at the IMAV2011. But the size factor also matters. My copter is pretty small, so I only had to fly ~5 times faster than the autonomous copters.William Thielickehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01217178163189555726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821522320379987891.post-25280020753716874622011-09-25T10:55:18.054+02:002011-09-25T10:55:18.054+02:00Hello.

You won with 12 times less points than "autonomous mission control" MAVs?

Do you know if the scoring of all team is available?
